Somos Team Attends the 2017 Women in the Law Conference

Last Friday, Somos sponsored the 2017 Women In The Law Conference at Northeastern University School of Law.  Somos' President & CEO, Gina Perini, is a graduate of Northeastern School of Law and a member of the conference advisory group.  She was joined by fellow Somos team members, Ann Berkowitz, Daniele Levy, and Pamela Carter.  The Somos team had the opportunity to hear presentations from several speakers, including the Honorable Maura Healey, Attorney General of Massachusetts, and a panel of women in leadership positions discussing how women in law are shaping our future.

Maura Healey encouraged all women in attendance to consider running for public office, or, to support their fellow women entering the public arena. Northeastern alumnae offered advice to women who are planning the next steps of their career, whether it be moving up the ladder with their current employer, or embarking on a new venture with an unfamiliar company. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of asking for what you want when negotiating the terms of your next job. The attendees were treated to copies of the book “The Feminist Fight Club,” and a presentation by its author, Jessica Bennett.

Panel members emphasized the importance of mentorship in their own careers. They encouraged the audience to take the time to mentor others and pass along their experiences to help the next generation of women in the workforce to be a strong one.
