Ninth Annual Law Rocks Washington DC Brings Legal Community Together to Rock

Washington DC, August 22, 2024 – Law Rocks, the nonprofit organization that produces a global tour of fundraising concerts starring legal professionals, returns to the DMV area for the Ninth Annual Law Rocks Washington DC on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The event kicks off the fall leg of the 2024 tour which will round out a year of record-breaking shows across the US.

Each of the seven bands features musically talented members from the DMV legal community. The 2024 lineup includes six veteran bands and one new to Law Rocks, with 21 legal firms represented. The event will once again take place at the acclaimed 9:30 Club.

Made possible by Hall of Fame sponsor Venable as well as tour sponsor Secretariat, the event has raised over $75,000 so far, with funds growing daily. Additional sponsors include Akin; Somos; Verizon; Wilkinson Barker Knauer; Willkie Farr & Gallagher; AT&T; Barrister Digital Solutions; Kator, Parks, Weiser & Wright; and Wiley Rein.

Three factors will determine the winning band: the total amount of funds raised by bands for their charity; the total funds raised in sponsorships and ticket sales; and the Rock Panel of Judges score. There will also be special recognition for the band with the highest marks from the Rock Panel of Judges. The Rock Panel includes Daniel Gomez, an accomplished singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founder and director of Distrito Music Fest; Eric Liley, Executive Director and CEO for The Musicianship; Evan Moses, a trademark lawyer, founder of the local community concert series "Live in Rose Park," and notably, a four-time Law Rocks veteran and former Judge’s Choice award winner with his band Rock Creek Kings; Stacy Puente, a musician, singer/songwriter, and front person for several DC area rock bands, including three-year Law Rocks veteran G.O.A.T. Rodeo; Chris Reardon, singer/songwriter/producer and music industry veteran; and Gregory K. Wells, attorney and board member of Foundation for the Advancement of Music & Education (FAME). The event will be hosted by Valerie Ojeda, front woman for the wildly successful national cover band, Anthem Road.

Each participating band will be rocking and fundraising for a local nonprofit of their choosing. This year’s selected organizations include Friends of ROAM, Gifts for the Homeless, Guitars 4 Vets, Legal Aid DC, Miriam’s Kitchen, SOUL (Student-Athletes Organized to Understand Leadership), and Young Artists of America.

This is also the second year Law Rocks will also be awarding its Music Matters grant in DC. The grant was founded in 2023 as part of Law Rocks’ initiative to increase giving in support of music education, particularly for underserved youth, and is given to a local music nonprofit on each leg of the tour. This year’s Washington DC recipient is Foundation for the Advancement of Music & Education (FAME) – an organization that prepares youth for college and career through a four-pronged approach including music instruction, academic support, college preparation, and career readiness.

The September 12 concert features legal professionals from 21 firms including Akin; The Author’s Guild; Dickinson Wright; Federal Communications Commission; Interactive Brokers; IRS Appellate Division; Kator, Parks, Weiser & Wright; Lutzker & Lutzker; Maryland Office of the Attorney General; McCarter & English; McGuireWoods; Meta; Mintz; Shulman Rogers; Somos; USTelecom; United States Department of Justice; Venable; Verizon; Willkie Farr & Gallagher; and Wireless Infrastructure Association.
