According to Zak Normandin, founder and chief executive at Iris Nova (an on-demand beverage delivery company) and the source of the above observation, operating in the texting space as a business is about more than just connecting with a consumer – it’s about laying a foundation of trust, building personal experiences and above all, bringing joy to the consumer whilst in the midst of a difficult time.

All of this and more is explored through the lenses of different professionals in varying industries in the recent Wall Street Journal article, Texting Customers Is No Longer Taboo When Everyone Is Stuck at Home. One recurring theme throughout the article is that unlike other mediums, texting with customers is NOT solely about driving sales and sealing the deal. In contrast, according to Brian Long, Attentive CEO and co-founder, “Companies are also using texting during the crisis to provide less transactional experiences.”

Part of achieving this goal, per Normandin, is to build a messaging platform that is more personal and intimate. One way his organization achieves this is by using full phone numbers instead of unfamiliar short codes, and to show respect by responding to customers’ texts quickly.
